COMBINED CHAPTER REPORTS OF THE CENTRAL CALIFORNIA CO-ORDINATING COMMITTEE UP TO FEBRUARY 15, 1942 Reports : Parlier--Women are enrolled in Red Cross. Three group meetings a week, one for knitting, sewing, and one with the American group. Men have enrolled in Civilian Defense. They have guarded the city water supply from possible sabotage. Have contacted local American Legion, Civilian Defense and we pledged full support. Membership formerly 45: since war, 26 new members. Membership drive is still going on. Members are attending First Aid classes. Conducted a survey for evacuation, but find nearly all available places reserved for friends in evacuated areas. Reedley—Met with the Isseis immediately after the war and have mapped out program. Executive Cabinet met with city officials and was assured full and adequate protection. Intensive membership drive. Have 45 members.' expect 100 after drive. Women are actively supporting Fed Cross : men have signed up for Civilian Defense. Contacted local Assemblyman. Reports from city schools state that there is better feeling in school than there existed before the war. Reedley JC Japanese in charge of the city's main lookout tower. Evacuation survey completed. taking preparations to care for a number of San Luis Obispo evacuees. Will donate shrubbery to the Fresno Hammer Base. Helping with the sales of stamps and bonds. Hanford--Actively supporting Red Cross with knitting and sewing, $800 in local Emergency Fund. Favorable reactions in local press. Pictures of Nisei soldiers printed immediately after the war. T*en have signed up for Civilian Defense and have acted as air raid wardens. Approximate membership was 40 before the war. Membership drive still going on: expect well over 100. Issei in full support of the movement. Cooperated with the city's blackout regulations. Have raised dues to $2.50 to meet emergency needs. Donated furniture to the Lemoore Air Base. Aiding in the defense bond and stamp sales with the city officials. DELAN0---Cabinet met immediately after the war and sent statements to the press. Created a permanent Executive Secretary. Raised substantial fund in the Emergency Fund Drive. Compiled census for all Japanese in their district. This was for the District Attorney of Bakers field. Local JACL is now assuming the responsibility for the Japanese community. Assured by the Naval Intelligence that they would give their full cooperation. Membership drive already completed. Report that nearly every family has bought defense bonds or stamps. Housing survey completed. Have notified Peadquar-: ters of accommodations. Girls are helping with the Red Cross.
