April 3, 1943__________PIONEER_________Page 3 Judo-Bu Shibai Nets $225.14 The shibai presented re- cently by the Amache Judo- Bu to raise funds for sun- dry expenses of the group netted them $225.14, ac- cording to the following statement released yester- day: INCOME--Amount of tick- ets sold, $336.05; dona- tions, $353; total, $689.05. DISBURSEMENT--Admission tickets sales tax, $33.61; expense for shibai costumes and gratuity to the Shibu- ya troop, $250; gratuity to other players and to the stage helper, $45.75; groceries (dinners after performances for five nights), $50.35; part pay- ment on canvas, $65 ; tickets (paper and envelopes), $5.50, miscellaneous, $13.70; to- tal, $403.91. BALANCE--$225.14. PRAIRIE, PASTURE LAND DAMAGED Six thousand seven hun- dred acres of prairie and pasture land were damaged Tuesday in the vicinity of the center. The local fire department had the blaze under control in four hours. PLANTING SEASON BEGINS THIS WEEK Farm-front news this week consists of the be- ginning of the planting season, and the arrival of 6,750 chicks. Irish potatoes and peas are the first to go in. In addi- tion, several hotbed plants will be ready for transfer to the project farms with- in a few weeks. CRIPPLED CHILDREN’S CLINIC ANNOUNCED April 12 was tentatively set for a crippled chil- dren's clinic to be held at. the center hospital, as a result of a meeting be- tween Dr. Edward N. Chap- man, director of the Col- orado Division of Crippled Children, and Dr. William T. Carstarphen, chief medi- cal officer here. Dr. Chapman recently visited the center accompanied by a doctor and woman repre- sentative of the Colorado State Board of Health. The social welfare de- partment, in conjunction with the center hospital, has made a census of crip- pled children in this cen- ter, but if there are some (under 21 years of age) who have not yet been con- tacted, they should notify John 0. Moore, social wel- fare head. More detailed plans for the clinic will be announced at a later date. ===OPPORTUNITIES=== Lathe operators with at least one year's experience, $1.10 pe r hour. Radio press operators, $1.50 per hour, plus board, in Chicago. Beautician, between the ages of 22 and 25. Dry cleaner, Alamosa and Sterling, Colo, Gardener, Lamar hospi- tal, Lamar. More railroad maintenance workers, $.50 per hour, $1.24 board, 9 to 10 hour work, southwestern Kansas. DOUBLE BILL SCHEDULED A double bill, featuring "The Gladiator," with Joe E. Brown, and "Rawhide," which co-stars Smith Ballew and the late Lou Gehrig, began a three-day run-here last night. "Gunga Din," the main feature this week, will be shown through Sunday night at the mess hall not showing the double bill. Both mess halls will have the serial, "Mystery Moun- tain." Starting Monday, evening, the picture, "Get Hep to Love," starring Gloria Jean, will be shown for a week, but is subject to change if attendance falls. Because "Mystery Moun- tain" is shown only on week ends, a new serial, "Fighting With Kit Car- son," starring Johnny Mack Brown, will begin Monday and will be shown through Thursday every week, ac- cording to the recreation department. © Short TAKES An informal banquet for about 80 issei pioneers was held at the 11K mess hall Wednesday evening. Folk singing and other en- tertainment featured the program. © Tom Yokoi, Swede Furu- kawa, and Benrty Yamagiwa left the center Sunday night to work at Boulder. © Mrs. Martha Smith of the Procurement office, recently left for Deliver to visit with her mother and sister, according to Alton 0. Mead, procurement officer. © Major Shelly and Major Lein of the Plans and Train- ing section at Omaha, Neb., visited the center's 335th Escort guard on a tour of inspection. © Deadline for handing in co-op cash register receipts is April 15, according to Consumer Enterpises. © All subscriptions to and the delivery of outside newspapers will be handled by the Consumer Enterprises instead of by the block ma- nagers as previously an- nounced. © New dental clinic pa- tients will hereafter be examined only on Wednes- days, Thursdays, and Fri- days, between the hours of 10 a.m. and 12 noon, and from 2 to 3 p.m., announced the hospital. © A coal truck caught fire in Block 7H recently, and a short circuit was given as the cause.
