Page 4_________________PIONEER_____________December 18, 1943 ILLNESS HANDICAPS HOSPITAL STAFF The center hospital was greatly handicapped when two doctors were stricken with influenza, states Dr. William Carstarphen, chief medical officer. Thus far the present epidemic has been very mild compared to the ones in the past,but the residents are asked to take all pre- cautionary since the crisis is not over,added Dr. Car- starphen . PRESS HOP SLATED FOR THURSDAY NITE A "White Christmas" dance, sponsored by the Associated Press club of Amache high school, will be held on Thursday evening at the high school school auditorium, 8 o'clock, announces Miss Louise Goodson, journalism instructor. This shindig is a "coat- and-tie” affair and is open to the public. Bids are being sold by the club mem- bers at 25 cents a couple to create a fund to publish a magazine. CHRISTMAS PROGRAM TO BE PRESENTED The high school Christ- mas program, open to the public, will be presented by the students, Wednesday evening at the auditorium, 7:30 o’clock, according to Miss Grace Lewis, chairman in charge. The highlight will be a nativity play under the direction of Robert George. Several Christmas songs will be rendered by the junior and senior, high glee clubs. OVER 70 ATTEND HOMEMAKING DANCE A Christmas dance was held by the Mops, a Future Homemaking club, Wednesday night at the homemaking class room, according to Mrs. Lottie Moore, instructor. More than 70 members and guests attended the affair. Shizue Nishimura, sec- retary of the Little Thea- ter. -R- Interested performers are urged to sign up for a minstrel show to be pre- sented in the near future with Roy Nikaido at the recreation office. -R- Boys and girls are urged to join in the proposed caroling chorus to sing on Christmas Eve, announces Mrs. Nishimura. -R- The "Fun Club" to hold such activities as social dances,square dances,games, etc. will be formed. Sign up at the recreation office. -R- TO THE RESIDENTS: Cooperation is essential in any activity. The sev- eral plans listed above are outlined in order to fill your free evenings with sparkling entertain- ment. These can prove successful if and when we have your full cooperation. --J.O. SEICHO-NO-IYE “Educational Methods by Seicho-No-Iye" will be re- sumed by Unosuke Karatsu at the 12G recreation hall to- morrow, 1:30 p.m. Selected readings from Seimei-no-Jisso book and Seicho-no-Iye magazine, testimonials,and the Shin- sokwan prayer will be in- cluded in the afternoon’s sermon. ADVENTIST A fellowship hour con- ducted by the Amache Sev- enth-day Adventist church will be held at 7:00 o’clock Wednesday night at the 9H recreation hall. Special music and commn- nity singing will be fea- tured. The public is invi- ted to attend. PROTESTANT Rev. Akira Kuroda, a guest speaker,will deliver the sermon to the Protestant group at Terry hall tomor- row, 10:15 a.m. Rev. Kuro- da is a former Amache rev- erend and is at present attending Wheaton college. The choir will perform under the direction of George Kubota. oOo LOST: A zippered Bible between 8H and 9K.
