PIONEER Sports January 26, 1944__________________Page 7 TWO TILTS TONIGHT MANJIETTES FACE SEPOL; BUTCHERS MEET FINANCE Al Kato's title-bound Ramblin' Ramblerettes and the up and coming Manjiet- es will put up another casaba tete-a-tete t hi s evening in a 7:15 o'clock curtain raiser. The Sepol sextet is well on its w ay to the championship and should encounter little trouble from the Manjiettes. Coach George Fujimitsu's backcourt trio will have a tough evening with the Ramblerettes' point-garner- ing triplet and his offen- sive threats--Amy Miyano and Katie Taketa-will fare no better with alert Janet Kubochi and Empire State- like Mary Yokoyama setting up a tight defense. In the second tussle the Finance cagers and the Slaughterhouse five, tied for the league leadership, will battle it out in their second round match. The Financiers nosed out the Butcher Boys in the first Encounter in a two over- time game but this fracas promises to be a tough, hard-fought "toss-upper." As an added attraction, arrangements are being made with the Swink quintet to meet the speedy Yoores in a feature game. BRONCO-ZEPHYR GAME REPLAY The athletic department appointed board to consider protests by the Broncos and the Royal Flushers against the Zephyrs re- leased its decisions Satur- day as follows: Broncos- Zephyrs game to be re-play- ed. Royal Flusters-Zephyrs game forfeited to the Royal Flushers. Harry Shironaka, athletic director,in disclosing the board's decisions stated that the Royal Flushers were allowed the forfeit on the ground that the Ze- phyrs carried eleven (11) players on the roster in- stead of the allotted ten (10) players. Shironaka failed to state the reason for declaring the Bronco- Zephyr contest a re-match FLUSHERS GAIN CLOSE VICTORY The Royal Flushers kept pace one step behind the Firemen by edging out the up and coming Mustangs 34- 32 in the second tussle Monday evening. The “unconscious" Mus- tangs pulled away from the baffled Flushers in the first canto with uncanny ease, but the winners re- taliated to forge ahead at the half-way mark, 16-14. The third period saw the Flushers increase their lead to 29-23 and stave off the Mustangs' late rally. Summary: FLUSHERS (34) Kashiwa- bara 8, Makimoto, Sakamoto, 3,Yamazumi 3, Inaba 7, Ni- shijima 2, Watanabe 5, Naka- togawa 1, Iseri 4, Imai 1. MUSTANGS (32) Murata 11, Wada 10, Miyoshi 5, Tsuji- moto 2, S. Kihara, Tanaka, One 1, Y. Kihara 1. ABNERS TACKLE ZEPHYRS; STARS-TOPPERS TO CLASH After a heart-breaking defeat last Sunday at the hands of the Ramblerettes, the Delta Shooting Stars will take the floor again in tomorrow night's pre- liminary game against, the Toppers. The Stars high scoring forwards should pile up enough points to give them an easy victory, while Sadayo Washino is expected to lead the Top- pers' scoring. The Lil' Abners dwind- ling in the cellar of the single-A circuit will find hope none too bright of climbing out in meeting the flashy Zephyrs in the sec- ond tilt. Touted to be the team to beat in the "A" league, the Zephyrs ran into difficulties by hav- ing their victories over Broncos and Royal Flushers nullified due to rules in- fractions. Altho without the ser- vices of their star center Joe Hamaguchi, and Shiro Yoshiwara, speedy Jack Hama- hashi and sharp-shooting John Nishimura make the Zephyrs still a formidable quintet and topheavy favor- ites to trump the Lil' Abners . Preliminary game is slated at 7:15 o'clock. DUSTERS OUTCLASS 8-BALL TAKE UNDISPUTED “AA" LEAD The Eight-Ball quintet went "down and under" as the high-riding Dusters thoroughly trounced their black-clad opponents to the tune of 60-30 in the Sun- day afternoon's feature game. In scoring their second "AA" triumph, the Dusters had no trouble at all with the bewildered Eight-Ballers. With Soapy Miyashima's tip-in in the opening min- ute of the tussle, the Dus- ters never relinquished the lead and stayed in front 30 to 20 at the half- time. In the second half, taking advantage of every opportunity, the Dusters kept up their blazing scor- ing spree to completely outclass the veteran Eight- Ballers. The smooth-work- ing brush Arai's basketeers stole the ball time and time again to break in for easy shots. Johnny Niizawa's 17 points gave him high scor- ing honors. Summary: DUSTERS (60) Sugano 8, Niizawa 17, Miyashima 13, Hamada 3,Kato 11, Shiro 2, Nakano, Nishijima 6. EIGHT-BALL (30) Shimizu 4, Tsuruta 6, Furuye 6,Yo- shida 4, Aoki 4, Kawamura, Okabe 2, Yokoi 2, Nakahara 2, Nishimura.
