Collegian Tuesday, Nov. 30,1993 'olumn Supplements breed racism By Mare Matteo Managing Editor On November 15, The Daily Collegian published the Novem¬ ber issue of La Voz De Aztlan, which is a newspaper printed from the Chicana-Mexicana point of view. This particular is^c was dedicated to the the renaming of Kings Canyon Boulevard to Cesar Chavez Boule- / ' vard. The problem is that while the mainstream papers (the Insight and The Collegian) struggle to find competent staff members of any race, religion, or sex, the mi¬ nority papers are forced tochoose their sniffs from an even smaller base of qualified students, the re¬ sult usually being no qualified staff members for the minority paper at all. Currently the Uhuru Na Umoja and the Hye Sharzhoom have editors that are com; petent journal¬ ism students with aneye to¬ wards some vated. After men¬ tioning KMI News Radio as a "magnet for politically and reli¬ giously (sic) right wing and white supremacy minded people," it goes on to say that "... the other voice for racist (sic) in Fresno is that of the Fresno Bee."
