Wednesday, February 1,1995 chaos in toonavision Cartoon pits cat £ ^ against, dog, puts wacky * twist on age old battle ByShELLY&LVA Features Editor Beware! Cat-and-dog duo set loose on Monday afternoons! Disney's Monday Mania has recently added some-new addi¬ tions to its animated after-toon programming. "The Shnookums and Meat Fiinny Cartoon Show" has hit the airwaves, causing chaos in toonavision- But for producers Bill—\Kopp and Jeff DeGrandis,"Shnookums and Meat" is cartoon bliss. "The ratings are very good, the show is kicking ass," Kopp said. The half-hour comedy show began airing January 2 assart of Disney's Monday Mania. The show is made up of three ani¬ mated skits with unique and, well, unusual characters. The ahow begins with the flipped-out cat-and-dog duo, aka Shnookums and Meat, who are always involved in a world- shattering scrimmage with un¬ lucky fate. I In one episode, Shnookums and Meat try to devise a way to DeGrandis" Kopp ' ' ' get rid of somemeddlesome fleas before their owners bane them from the house and condemn them to a life of backyard dis-' harmony. They end up creating a potion which makes the fleas grow a hundred times bigger, turning the dynamic duo into wiping boys for anti-benevolent bugs. l~- After a commercial $>reak audiences can enjoy the adven¬ tures of "Pith Possum: Super- Dynamic Possum of Tpmor- row." The weekly skit takes audi^ ences through the adventures of Pith Possum who is a lowly tab¬ loid copyboy. But when trouble arises he slaps on a cape and mask and heads off todefend Possum City with his trusty side^kick Obediah the Raccoon. \ Pith Possum takes a swipe at the serious super hero car¬ toons. Episodes such as "Phan¬ tom Mask of the Dark Black", "Darkness Of Black", "Darkness ontheEdgeof Black*and "Night of Darkness" can be found in the line up. "We were tired of all the serious cartoons, 'Batman' in particular. We thought it was time to make fun of those seri¬ ous cartoons," Kopp said. "Tex Tinstar: The Bestin the West" shown weekly, has the hero involved in some misadventure which always seems to lead to certain death, but somehow he manages to avoid doom. v He is the Don Quixote of the American West, he is the Man of la bad luck. ' The cartoon series is a cre¬ ation from the minds of two crazy producers whoKa«e a^~ funny as their animated heroes. Kopp is producer and writer for the series while De Grandjs is co-producer and director.
