Inc.. senate Thursday. Legislative Vice President Eileen Richardson decided to schedule the meeting for nexm April 22 after seeing if enough senators could attend. The purpose of the meeting will be to authorize additional money nccded.lo hold the upcoming elec¬ tions. Originally, the senate allocated $ I .(XX) to pay for the elections, to be held April 29.30 and May I. But more is needed according to Gabriel Ciucur. president pro tempore. He said upwards of $250 or more is to needed pay for the re¬ quired materials, such as scantrons and counting machines. In other actions. Tommy Monreal, ASI president, told the Board the bylaws were silent on questions whether members of the gallery could speak during meet¬ ings, an issue which had been raised in prior meetings. Ciucur stressed lhat if the pub¬ lic is allowed to speak, there must be regulation. "Otherwise problems can arise." he said. Tammi Martinez. ASI senator and chair of the legal committee, said a senator needed to "take ini¬ tiative" and draft a proposal on the matter. "We've jthe legal committee] been submerged in (bylaw) revi¬ sions, ; and we're trying to get through." she said. In other business, the Board voted to extend a contract with Jef¬ frey D. Simoman to serve as ASI's legal counsel. Vintage Days slides into Fresno State By Derek Walter & Abid Yahya The Daily Collegian Cheering crowds, balloons and rock music marked the first day of this year's "bcachin"' Vintage Days during opening ceremonies Thursday. A full schedule of events arc on tap throughout the weekend, such as live bands, casino night, a petting zoo and a car show. "Marlone the part-time guyr from local radio station "Star I0I" led a cheering crowd dur¬ ing the ceremonies by yelling, "Are you ready for Vintage Days •977!" Jackie Arikian, event coordi¬ nator, said it took' a lot of effort to put the event together. "If it wasn't for the students on this campus," she said ."Vin¬ tage Days wQuld not be as success¬ ful as it is. We've been working around the clock to put Vintage Days together." Preparations for this year began right after last year's Vintage Days- ended, Arikian said. She said the Vintage Days staff has been working to increase stu¬ dent involvement. For example. 30 to 40 student organizations will take part in the Crafts Fair. Fifteen student organi¬ zations will participate in the Vintathlon. a gladiator-type compe¬ tition, compared to last year's four or five groups. Organization honors top students By Ezra Danciu The Daily Collegian A month has passed since the Fresno Stale chapter of the Golden Key National Honor Society inducted the latest members into its ranks. Each year. Golden Key recognizes one junior and one senior from each of its 245 college chapters (both nationally and inter¬ nationally) as a Golden Key National Honor Society Scholarship recipient for outstand¬ ing academic pursuit. Among the honorccs al the ceremony held on March 16 were two of the most academi¬ cally involved students on campus. Colby Linder of Clovis was the junior celebrated for this achievement. Lidncr is a biology and physiology major with a 4.0 overall G.P.A. He is also a Rodman Scholar, receiving a four-year scholarship through Fresno Stale for being among the Valley's top students, and is on the National Dean's List. Linder is on the Rodman Steering Com¬ mittee and is a member of Inter-Varsity Chris¬ tian fellowship as well as Cadaccus. a pre- med. organization on campus "I would like to thank the professors at Fresno State I would have lo give a,plug to the education I have received here." Linder said. Linder plans to altend medical school. He recently received his Emergency Medical Technician-1A certificate and is looking for a job with Valley Children's Hospital or American Ambulance Karen Villarama of Fresno was the Senior Golden Key Scholarship recipient Villarama is a philosophy and prelaw major w uh a 4 0 G.P.A. She is a volunteer at Rescue the Chil , drcn-Craycrolt Center. . r Villarama was born in ihe Philippines and raised in ihe military, bul she speaks perfect English with no identifiable accent Villarama is concerned vv uh leaching people about Fili¬ pino heritage.
