Suddenly the television transmission stopped. Walter Cronkite came on the screen and said that the duly elected government of Salvador Allende had been overthrown by the Chilean military led by „Gen. Augusto Pinochet. The day was Sept. 14, 1973. "1 remember I used to have one chair and one TV set," Figueroa said. "And I remember I was in front of the TV set. watching CBS news, when they cut the transmission. They were showing the foot¬ age of the presidential palace being bombed when the transmission was cut. So he gave me the bad news, Walter Cronkite. Uncle Walter." Today Figueroa. 44, sits in a small office on the sd^uth side of San Ramon 4 as the coordinator of the Chicano-Latino Studies program. A Clarinet Recital featuring Professor Gary Cauchi will be performed Saturday, Nov. 8 at 8 p.m. in the Arthur G. Wahlberg Recital Hall in Music Building 100. Admission is free. The Eighth Annual Law Day Conference will be Thursday. Nov. 6 from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. in Main Cafeteria Room 200. Con¬ ference agenda includes panel dis¬ cussions dealing with pre-law cur¬ riculum, the law school admissions process, career opportunities and the law school experience. The conference will be highlighted by a sample law^class presented by Western State University School of Law. Students ir/attendance will be provided with informative materials necessary fof participation in the class. Students will be given the opportunity to interact with law school students and recruiters re¬ presenting the law schools of Pepperdine, USC, UCLA, Loyola, McGeorge, USF, UC Berkeley and some others.
