You had straight, shoulder-length, brownish-blond hair and were wearing a western-like, light blue skirt. I couldn't help but notice you. Our eyes seemed to meet more than once. I should have said "hello- when I passed you in the hall during intermission. I am about 6'3 with an average build and about 195 lbs. I have short brown hair and I wore blue jeans and a brown leather jacket I would appreciate it if you would call. It would be nice to get to know each other. » Steven, 228-1643 CONCERT Continued from page 1 Friesen plays the cello with, aggressive virtuosity. Besides using the traditional bowing technique, he plucked the strings, made long and fast slides ajong the length of the neck, and incorporated the use of harmonics into one of the pieces he performed. The first piece featured Bennett on the mridangam. His quick beating on die two- ended drum was backed by Friesens' droning cello, then the piece turned into a lamenting duet with Sullivan on piano along with percussional interjections from Bennett A solo piano performance by Sullivan followed. Spontaneous musical improvisation plays a big part in the crfttion of the group's music, Friesen told the audience, and many of their pieces are a result of improvisation. A beautiful environment in which to play one's instrument is an important ingredient in improvisation, he said. {. The room Music 100 (the Wahlberg Recital Hall) has special meaning to Friesen. he told the audience, since he has performed in the hall more than any other place — over 200 times. It is also one of his favorite halls to perform in, he said, and the group would like to do an improvisation there. "So here's a im¬ provisation to M 100,r he said. The audience laughed. The group then began a dissonant and sporadic improvisation which became more flowing and less dissonant as it went on. The show also featured a piece called "Crystal Rivers," written by Bennett and dedicated, said Friesen, "to the spirit of , rivers." The musicians, also performed a bouncy and dynamic number which, Friesen said, would be part of their show Saturday. The piece was filled with loud and bashing drums — a stark contrast to almost all the previous percussion — along with unusually rhythmic cello and piano playing by Friesen and Sullivan. A piece by Leonard Bernstein ended the show.
