Henry Fogg. Dave Hodges, John Simian, and Arnold Kirschenman give Fresno State as formidable a lop four ss there Is ln the state. "Everyone of thoae boys can hit the ball a mile," boasted Pape. "I'd put them up against tbe pro¬ fessionals any day and I'm willing to bet they'd hold their own." Might Not Bo Enough But Pape went on to explain thst Tour long hitters might not be enough. "Conference competition is get¬ ting tougher all the time. San Diego and Los Angeles have two of the atrongest teams ln the ■tate. They're the teams we wilt have to beat." Line Problems Recruiting Getting Difficult As Eligibility Laws Stiffen With new regulations on trans¬ fer athletes, recruiting problems can pop up by the car load. This brings up the question or a fresh¬ man program. "A problem of this sort will have to be solved before long." Bob Burgess described his re¬ turning line talent for next year. If we want the proven athlete, we have to go after the Junior college athlete, he continued. If we go after the freshman, we will lose many of the athletes after the first semester. "We feel that we are going to pick up men to fill our gaps," he said. "And, naturally ln our returning squad we have a flue first line. We sre, however, weak at the center and tackle posi¬ tions." " The weakness at tackle is not new to Burgess. This year after the'season started three tackles dropped out of college and a fourth wss hurt. In order to help the position, All-Amsrtcau guard Doug Brown was moved to fill In. Chuck Noel and Eddie Greene gave fans plenty to talk about In the San Fernando game. Noel played great defense and potted 12 points white Greene was pock¬ eting 15, Noel and Greene arc likely replacements for McFerson and Sarantos. who along with Smith will be Ineligible tn the NCAA playoffs. Fresno finished league play with a 10-2 record, two full games In front or Santa Barbara and luoriR Beach.
