Al¬ though the big eager Is suiting uf for games and trying to score with his hand in a small cast, hli play Is hindered as any cage fan could seo over the past weekend. Of course you can always argue that Netr could have been kilted In an auto accident too . . . Although Joe Chappel la do¬ ing an adequate Job he lacks apeed and veteran Tom Jacobsen doesn't belong" out front. Although the reasons given are fair this reporter hasn't given up on this ball club. My two reasons In rebuttal are: 1) NefT hasn't been the Important cog In the Bulldog oirense In the early going as he was In the latter part of play last season. His best effort to date was the San Jose State game where he garnered 13 points and pulled down ten rebounds. 2) In agreement that the Bulldogs do lack speed at the guards, coach Harry Miller's offense Is geared to a different type of attack. Now that Neff won't be starting Miller must make some' adjustments and It will take a row games for every¬ one to get acquainted. This same team still beat San Jose State In the early going. The Spartans went on* to win the West Coast Athletic Association Tour¬ ney over the Christinas vacation against the likes of* Bant* Clara, SC Mary's, Portland. University of San Fnnclsco and Feppcrdliie, Don't give tip the ship yet, people . . . Line coach Bob Burgess showed his enthusiasm at Friday night' game when as the public address announcer he directed that the FSC cheering section should go over a yell a second time. After the yell waa completed, Burgess nodded his approval. Is It true that backfleld coach Kenny Gleason may retire from the coaching ranks and concen¬ trate on teaching physical educa¬ tion cla-sses only? Center J. R. Williams certainly paid two of his former teammates a compliment arter returning from the East-West classic in San Francisco. "Anabo throws as well as Guy 'Sonny' Otbbs or Darylc L-amonlca, The man that played opposite to Tie was the same type of player hat Jack Bohan Is . . . quick and aggressive," said big J. R. In talking to Myron Anderson, director of fntramurala, yesterday he wanted to thank Pete Beide&'s referrelng class for officiating at the Independent and Greek bas¬ ketball games. . Without their help the two leagues would be In a sad shape of affaire. The rivalry In Greek league is so fierce that without good officiating the games wonld get out of hand," said Anderson also had praise for Collegian sports -vriter Fred Mc¬ pherson. The spring semester vnr- slty pitching prospect has been covering the intramnraj scene the fall win ester. "It's the finest coverage that Intramural play has had since I've been at FSC," commented Aniler- I would also like to thank Mc- Pherson and Bill Spencer for their assistance In getting out the sports page last Friday and Mon- Thelr boss was experiencing the final stage of pledging. I believe called "Hell Week." Thanks also goes out to Don Culbertson too. He knows why . . . -^ZT^ Baseball Rally Tomorrow Pete Men as, commissioner of athletics, announced today that a rally will be held in front ot the Cafeteria, tomorrow at 1 PM to help spark the drive for a base¬ ball stadium. Manas said the rally will serve as a spark to get something done on the proposed baseball stadium that waa promised Fresno State nine years ago. Since the California trustees' - appearance on this campus almost a month ago. Dr. Arnold Joyal tuu tried to bring some pressure to the board that, this school needs a diamond for Its baseball FSC sold John Euless park to Fresno City College two years ago because the school thought It would be getting a new park. Organisations can enter teams with the five top shooters consti¬ tuting the team's total score.
