The Dally Collegian Students needed to aid committees i, staffing a I campus develop- may By TOM MAURER If you re interested in becoming n volved in CSUK student governmen but aren't quite sure how lo begii the Associated Students list sever, committees and boards which still n According to the AS. there are four major divisions under which a student can become involved in student government They are the Faculty/ Student Committees, the AS Student Senate Boards and Committees the CSUF Association Committees and Miscellaneous Committees Each committee requires one hour minimum per week beyond committee meetings, notes AS representatives Information regarding the times of meetings may be obtained in the AS office, CU 306 Under the Faculty/Student Com mittees, the first group involves the Academic Senate Standing Com mittees, the first of which is Academic Policy and Planning (AP&P) In addition to APAP, there are senate Manding Committee there are alto Budget, Faculty Affirmative Action, Public Affairs and Student Affairs standing committees. Two students sit on APAP, the committee responsible for recommending university-wide policies on such matters as admissions, curriculum re- dawnatawn The Budget Committee requires two student members The committee reviews the uni- departments and schools The student members are responsible for the review of financial data submitted to the committee and are to make any necessary studies to provide information for recommendations to the Academic The Faculty Affirmative Action Com- nittee requires two student members _, affect aspects of student life such md financial aid, student health, organ. The second grouping of Faculty/ Student Committees are the Subcommittees of APAP Those include Data Processing, Instructional Development, Registration and Teacher Education Th,s the i tive body of the faculty on policy i garding implementation of the univer sity's affirmative action program Members review policies and pro grams concerning faculty and admim strative appointments, promotions, transfers, advancements and oopor tunites as they affect women and ethnic minority groups The Public Affairs Committee re quires two student members This committee recommends policy for all aspects of the university's public relations, particularly as thev affect the university's academic policy These aspects shall include pub lie ceremonies, university develop They must also assure the nomination of women and ethnic minorities for election to university boards and committees student registration Teacher Education needs two students who have been admitted to a credential program in the School of Education on this committee They deal with matters of credentialling that affect the university Subcommittees of Personnel are also under Faculty/Student Committees Included is the Faculty Awards sub- ber This committee has a three-fold purpose First, it serves as a forum where the wishes and/or problems of the faculty and the computer center can be aired Second, the committee makes policy recommendations The Instructional Development Committee requires three student members This committee participates in faculty conferences, seminars and workshops; assists faculty in designing and implementing courses; solicits, assists and advises faculty with grant applications; and evaluates mini- and max i -grant proposals. Doubts of new paraquat test kits effectiveness grows By BARBARA DETERS Dr Dave Tilley of the Olive Street Bridge, a Fresno drug counseling center has reinforced his skepticism (see yesterday's Dairy CoUeglanJof the new Dipyridium-base indication kit tor detecting paraquat in pot Saying that he is 'more skeptical now than ever r efore' of the new paraquat detecting kit scheduled to be marketed in California in about a month, Tilley claimed the TVD Research Laboratory in San Antonio, Texas inventor of the kit, probably used laboratory-sprayed marijuana to conduct their tests instead of actual field-sprayed pot.
