Cooking College, was commemorated with a U.S. postage stamp yesterday iB Washington, D.C. The NCN W in conjuction with the US, postal service hejd ceremonies at the Bethune Council House to commemorate {he-event.-The Department of the Interior also placed an official marker c building, declaring it a national historic NCN W president Dr. Dorothy I. Height who first met Mrs. Bethune in I937t described her as "a magnificent human being, whose contributions was not simply in what she did, bui in her very being and Local C.I.T.I.E.S. Chapter Holds Awards Banquet The Fresno chapter of Com¬ munity Involvement Teams in Every Sector (CITIES) will hold its .second annual awards banquet on Saturday. March 16 at the Airport Holiday Inn, Polynesian Center at 6 p.m. Dr. Anyim Palmer, founder of the Marcus Garvey Pre- schools and Junior High Schools of Los Angeles, will be the guest speaker. The theme for this year's program is "Education - Key to Success." Donations for the banquet and disco to follow are $20. Disco music will be provided by John Dickson from 9 pm. to 2 a.m. Disco tickets will be sold at the door for S5. The non-profit organization is composed of active and retired telecommunication em¬ ployees. The Fresno Chapter, formed in 1981, is the newest of five chapters throughout the state. The first chapter was established in Los Angeles 15 years ago to assist .worthy public organizations in the minority community, assist the underpriviledged in em¬ ployment opportunities, and assist minority employees of the Bell System based on their specific needs. "Aerobics itself is for the cardiovas¬ cular system. The more -you do it, the slower your heart rate, the more endur¬ ance you build up. You work on indi¬ vidual parts [of the body] and still get a complete workout," said Taylor. Taylor, an interior design major who has been involved in dance for most of her. life, enjoys instructing the class. "IVe also taken health, nutrition, physical educa¬ tion and dancing classes and I'm certified in CPR and first aid," she added. Clad in everything from bright, multi¬ colored leotards and tights to loose-fitting sweats and bandanas, the group moves in a chorus-like unison to the Cars' Hello Again. Bobbing up and down, partici¬ pants keep in tempo with the beat of the music. Most look like they are having fun, but a few look like they would rather be at the dentist. "I know that it looks like I'm not having any fun, but I am," said Jonathon Mueller, one of five male students who attended. "When you complete an hour of this, you really feel like you've accomplish¬ ed something," the CSUF junior said. Mueller has been attending the bi¬ weekly sessions regularly since the start of the spring semester as a form of exercise, and as an outlet for pent-up tension. "I know some people think guys come here just because there's a lot of girls," Mueller joked. "But, 1 like to do the exercises. It's a very good workout for an hour, and it's good every so often to exercise the body instead of the mind "'i think it's really relaxing, it's an outlet. School can really bringona lot of tension," Mueller added. "Yes, I'm sweaty, yes, I'm a masochist," quipped one participant when asked why she attended class. Kathy Petzold said she came because she finds it enjoyable. "It's really convenient, it's relaxing pit- it's a lot of fun," said Petzold. I do it because I'm on a diet," said Cynthia Buttram, "This is my first time here, but I want to come consistantly." "We get all types, all levels of ability here. WeVe had some people who have been coming for a long time,"said Taylor. "Some pop in for a study break, but to really gain anything, you have to be "A lot of people come just for fun, others to work out and some are trying to get in shape. We try not to incorporate too much in an hour. We like to be available," said Taylor.
