The chief duty of this office ls to keep an accurate report of the business of too associated stu¬ dents and student council. But I feel that the student body secre¬ tary ls a representative of the students. She should take an ac¬ tive part and a sincere interest to all student body affairs and should cooperate and support all other student body officers. I would consider lt an honor and a privilege to serve as student body secretary. JAN1E SASAKI As a candidate for the offlce of student body secretary, I realize that her main responsibUlty wUl be to record accurate minutes of the student council and executive board meetings.. It ls also her responsibility to make these minutes accessible to any member of the student body at any time. Another of her main responsibilities will be to handle toe correspondence for the In the past, I have had toe op¬ portunity to serve as secretary for AWS, toe freshman class and Angel Flight. I don't beUeve lt is toe Job of toe commissioner to activate any personal wants. He should be an Impersonal Judge. Open-mlnded- ness ls one of the most Impor¬ tant Issues of my campaign. I Intend to visit other college unions to find out what problems are encountered in establishing and governing a college union. Decisions concerning the union must be as fair as possible to boto faculty and students. I wUl try to see toat this ls done. I believe toe community would like to know, and should know, what ls happening with our union, for they are helping to pay for lt. More Important, however, is to keep the student body Informed as to developments ln reference to STEPHEN MOORE I am a Junior economics major from Sacramento fighting my flrst "battle of toe grades" at Although I have had no student council experience here, I have had student councU experience at my last coUege where I served councU. After my first term, the editor of the college newspaper singled me out as one of toe zealous legislators on councU. ldent of Inter-Club Council and president of Political Affairs Club. For my work that semes¬ ter I received a distinguished service award. I was also a mem¬ ber of Alpha Gamma Sigma and Circle K. This year I hope to represent you ln planning our new student union. With toe right planning lt can be the showplace and heart of the campus. On the other hand, poor planning could turn lt into a disappointment. Secretary BARBARA YBANEZ Because toe offlce of ASB sec¬ retary ls traditional and, there¬ fore, not one ln which revolution¬ ary changes can bo made, I have no new campaign platform. I offer, instead, my qualifications and desire. First, some of my qualifica¬ tions: vice president of Baker Hall—1963; AWS representative, two semesters—1962 and 1964; historian of Phi Chl Theta (na¬ tional businesswomen's wororlty—1964; publicity chair¬ man for Homecoming--1964; overall grade point average of 3.38; Dean's List—two semes¬ ters; honors program partlcl- Another qualification which al¬ so helps explain my desire to be secretary and to serve the stu¬ dents of Fresno State ls toat I am an office administration major and plan to go into secretarial work upon graduation. Also, I have worked as a part Ume sec¬ retary on campus for the past two and a half years. Holding toe office of ASB secretary would give me the opportunity to use what I have learned. Women's Legislative Commissioner SALLY COBUR'N In my opnlon, the most impor¬ tant responsibility of toe new Women's Legislative Commis¬ sioner ls to help to toe forma¬ tion and functioning of toe newly selected CoUege Union Board. She must also represent tho stu¬ dents at toe Board of Directors, the Board of Publications, and the AWS Activities Board. Since I have worked on two fa¬ culty-student committees -- the CoUege Union and Student Life Committees — I feel I have toe experience necessary for these duties. I have also served on Lhe freshmen, sophomore, and Junior executive committees, and have been on toe Student CouncU for two years. Now to my third year at Fresno State, I have enjoyed serving the college and would like to con¬ tinue doing so ln toe future. GAIL FRIESEN I am a candidate for Women's Legislative Commissioner and I wish to express my opinion as a this office. The office of Women's Legis¬ lative Commissioner ls one which holds a great deal of responsibU¬ lty and power. The commissioner has a responsibUlty not only to Lhe women of toe coUege, but to Lhe student body as a whole; she has tho power of having one of toe four student votes on the Board of Directors. This Board has the final power over all stu¬ dent association funds. The com¬ missioner also has voting power ln the Board of Fine Arts, Board of Popular Arts, Board of Publi¬ cations and sits Ln on all Associ¬ ated Women Student meetings. The two highest qualifications for tols office, I feel, are: toe willingness to participate to ton fullest extent and allotment of tlmo to fulfil! the duties of toe offlce. With past actlvlUes and honors Including toe Rally Com¬ mittee, Junior Class Executive Committee, Honors Program and toe Dean's List, I have and am willing to allot the time required to perform the duties of tols of- Athletic Commissioner ART I feel toat one of the primary things to look for when evaluating a candidate Is his past exper- Presently I am serving as chairman of Rally Committee. Through tols Job I have gained an insight of what is happening at Fresno State College by being both a member of Student Execu¬ tive Committee and Student Coun¬ cil. Being Rally Committee chairman has enabled me to work closely wlto the Board of Athletic Control. The Board has Jurisdiction only over Intercollegiate and Intra¬ mural sports activities and toe formulation and direction of ath¬ letic policies. Thus there are no •pie to toe sky" solutions to our present athletic problems toat will come to tols board. My opponent has said he wUl get faculties for the new base¬ ball park. I wonder where hewUl get the funds? Only toe state can allocate toe money, and for years lt has deprived Fresno State of lt. This is not to say, however, toat the Board should not continue Its fight for money. I believe my experience and my wUllngness to serve the Stu- lndicatlon of what I will do for HARVEY WALLACE The Commissioner of Athletics has the primary responsibility of representing the students on the Board of Athletic Control and with the proper faculty members and representatives of the 'ad¬ ministration. My platform recognizes these responsibilities and provides possible avenues for Improving e present athletic The four major proposals which I advocate are: 1) The expansion of the lnter- mural program to Include an or¬ ganized program for benefit of coeds. This would Include pro¬ vision of a board to effectively administer the program; 2) Possible provision of gym¬ nasium faculties for weekend use of students; 3) Better publication of inter¬ collegiate athletic events for benefit of Fresno; and, 4) A full scale investigation into the posslbUlties of acquiring toe needed faculties for the new coUege baseball stadium not In¬ cluded ln present plans.
