The Dally CoUegian EDtfORIAL Reading Period Approval Student Council scored its first major victory this week when it was learned that President Ness approved the Reading Period. A pet project of Student President Ernie Kinney's administration, the plan will elimi¬ nate one academic day to allow students to study for final exams. Although President Ness' approval is for this semester only, a precedent has been set which might make it easier for future adminis¬ trations to bring about reading periods of more length. Praise must be heaped on Reading Period Committee Chairman Harvey vVallace and Kin¬ ney. Wallace gathered the necessary informa¬ tion and guided the proposal through Student Council while Kinney provided adequate an¬ swers to members of the Academic Senate to gain that body's unanimous approval. Students, too, supported the measure with 1,800 signatures that certainly must have af¬ fected President Ness' decision.
