A faculty ad hoc committee to Inform the community of the Implications behind Governor Ronald Reagan's economic pro¬ posals for higher education has been approved by the Academic Senate and will meet this week to outline Us program. The committee will deal with "the tuition proposal, the 20.7 per cent budget cut and political In¬ trusion Into academic affairs and will continue for the duration of the budget crisis,' said Dr. Dale Bush, assistant professor of eco¬ nomics and a committee member. Dr. Robert Comegys, associate professor of history and chair¬ man of the committee, said •There are two Important tasks related to the governor's eco¬ nomic plans: 1. to talk with the Legislature and 2. to Inform the public of the implications of the budget cut.* The committee Includes rep- 9 from the following faculty organizations: American Association of University Pro¬ fessors, American Federation of Teachers, Association of Cali¬ fornia Slate College Professors, California State Employees As¬ sociation (academic chapter) and the California Teachers Assc- Also Included in this committee are a member of the Academic Senate Executive Committee, an administrative representative, a student body representative, a member of the community and an alumni representative. All of these representatives have not been named yet, accord¬ ing to Dr. Comegys, but they will be named In time for the first meeting, which will be no later than Thursday. Although specific plans have not been established, Dr. Co¬ megys said the committee plans to compile Information about the economic Issue, provide speak¬ ers to community groups, act as a briefing group for those making presentations about the econom¬ ics of higher education and spon¬ sor a community forum.
