Dec. 6, 1973 / CSUF will host13th FFA cotton judging contest 25 seniors, 2 juniors make Who's Who in college' list CSUF will host It* 13th annual Futur* Farmer* of America Regional Citrus Judging Contest Saturday. Th* event is cospon- sored by Sunklst Growers, Inc. and tha CSUF Department of Plant Science. Dr. AUen Hewitt, CSUF profes- lnvitaUons have been sent to some 80 high schools in Central and Southern California. Seventy students competed in last year's Mt. Whitney High School of VlsaUa is the defending champion In the Class A competition and PortervlUe High School had the winning team last year In the Class B contest. will Lisbon lemons, Marsh Seedless grapefruit, and balled citrus trees. Oral reasons will be given for tbe placlngs. The contestants also wlU be required to Identify tbe same three citrus varieties. Official Judges for the Class A contest WlU be Paul Cook, Larry Peterson, Charles Robinson, and Dick Robinson, all Inspectors with the Fresno County Agricultural Commissioner's Office. CSUF horticulture students Judging the Class B competition wlU be Terry McQuald and Wayne Stevenson, both of Fresno, Chad Ingram of Delano, and David Marler of Sanger. Contest registration will be held from 8:30 to 9 a.m. In the CSUF Agriculture Building and the contest will be conducted from 9 a.m. to noon. An awards program will begin at 1:30 In Agriculture Building 109. Gordon Lander and. Claire Bishop of the Grower Relations Department will represent Sun- klst Growers at the event along with Jack Ross of the Sunklst Research and Development Department who will speak on new developments In Held, packinghouse, and transportation equipment In the citrus Industry. Sunklst provides trophies and ribbons for the contest winners and hosts the teams and their Th*,ni ■ of five graduate students, 25 seniors and two Juniors at CSUF will be listed in the 1973-74 edition of Who's Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges. Mike Chapman was outstanding for Davis, winning both th* 50- yard and 100-yard freestyles. His winning times war* 21.8 and 50.0, respectively.
