Pag* Two- — Tho Fresno State College Collegia: EDITORIAL COMMENTS As this is being written a Fresno State College student being sought in connection with the slaying of his wife. Poli wish to question Ted Werner concerning his whereabouts the time of his wife's garrote-slaying. No matter who the murderer is, the incident has all the elements of a front-page story. In the rjeat of the moment, reporters are anxious to get every- piece of information, pertinent quote they can put their hands on. It makes for good "copy." The incident, while still fresh in everyone's mind, will serve as a good example of the two possible types of new paper "play."-The story can be played conservatively, c sensationally. But no matter what method is used, a report! has to be careful to keep his mind on the facts at all time: The temptation to embellish, to select the most vivid con mentaries of associates, is great. But the responsibility of n porters to society is greate{. It has come to our attention Werner has been called criminology student. Because he is the number one suspec according to police, it is important for the news agencies t collect every bit of information they can about him . . this for the most complete story. But to deliberately distot the facts, beCMM tlu-v :,o handily make for good "copy," i a gross injustice.
