If there is a geographical spot on campus where the cultures of the east
and west meet, then that place is in the classroom of Leta Lewis, German instructor and associate professor of foreign languages.
Lewis, born and raised in Washington state, has her Ph.D. in Cermanic
languages and studies, but has always had a yen for eastern culture, religion and philosophy.
If that seems paradoxical, Lewis has no problems combining the often opposing social philosophies of east and west.

Student murder remains unsolved
It has been 56 days since the murder of former CSUF student Krista
Hambrock, and the Fresno and campus
police departments have yet to find a
suspect.
"There are no new leads," said
CSUF Police Captain William Anderson.
"There has not been too much communication (between the Fresno and
campus police), but the last word was

The California Conservation Corps has
immediate openings fo.- women, ages
18-23.
The CCC has 600 women and 1,200
conservation projects. Corps members
build parks and trails, clear streams,
plant trees and restore wildlife habitats,
CCC crews also fight forest fires and
floods.
The corps offers women an opportunity to experience a wide range of non-
traditional jobs. About 36 percent of
the corps' crewleaders are women

report any suspicious activity on campus
(487-2541), and all lights in the parking
lots were to remain lit from dusk to
dawn.
Anderson said the campus police
will continue its daytime watch, with
two patrol cars covering the campus.
The security will be beefed up at night,
with a minimum of three patrol cars on
duty and "at times there will be four,"
Anderson added.
"With the general population growth
moving toward this area, we will have
a higher crime rate," he said. "There
have been a few incidents close to
campus that have caused uneasiness "
Anderson encouraged the reporting
of suspicious activities to the police
department.
"If a person sees a boy and a girl
arguing, it might be a love's spat and
it isn't any of their business, but it
doesn't hurt to check," he said. "Just
calling in can help considerably. People
need to be mainly taking care of each
