The Fregne State Collage Collegian It's Not A Public Bath Complaints have been received in The &>Ue_ian office re_arding the conduct of gone students, believed to be freshmen, and their respect or rather ill-respact to thg fountain. May we be forced to say only once that the fountain is not a wishing; well, a swimmmij pool, a bathtub or a garbage pail. The fountain does not need a sudsing- or a volunteer paint job and the fountain ig not a place to practice a balance act. The fountain is a MEMORIAL fountain—one dedicated in loving manor)' of Fresno State College students who were killed fighting for freedom during World War II and during the Korean conflict. More than 100 former FSC'ers sacrificed their lives so that we might be able to continue our daily lives in a peaceful country. The fountain, designed by Darwin Musselman of the college art department, is a gift from a combination of graduating classes sad from Dr. and Mrs. John Masten who contributed financially. Dr. Masten is a former Fresno State professor. Now considered by many to be the campus beauty spot— and truly it is breathtaking with its continual flow of water reflecting a rainbow of colors in the evening—the fountain was officially dedicated less than a year ago on the appropriate date of Dec. 7, Pearl Harbor Day. The solemn high noon occasion was attended by students, townspeople and members of the California State College Board of Trustees. All present were reminded by the speakers of the bravery of those who were killed for their country. Such a display of bravery commands and deserves respect Andrea Lanfranco, editor.
