Secondly, it would of necessity bear the brunt of the storm of criticism which undoubtedly would be loosed with the publication of liqui advertisements. This last, fortunately or unfortunately as the case may be, would be nothing new in the Collegian's history and can be disregarded. It is the first point which will bear scrutiny. The Collegian'will never sell itself "down the river1 under pressure of financial need. It has never carried an advertisement which it even remotely suspected might be | detrimental to the interests of the students of Fresno State College, and does not intend to. The question raised, however: would the long run effect of r advertisements (the "hard" liquors we bar at the outset) be harmful to the welfare of Fresno State's stu dent? The Collegian does not believe so. Claiming on its staff many of thgt nation-wide f ratern ity which literally drank prohibition off the statute books, the Collegian has watched carefully the reaction of repeal, and the swing from hard liquor to what might be termed relatively "heavenly" wines has not passed unnoticed. In this latter, repeal has actually brought a new deal for the collegiate thirst, and is apparently bringing about the much-sought moderation in drinking. Let there be no misinterpretations: The Collegian does not advocate that the students of Fresno State College take up the pastime of wine, drinking. It doubts that any advertisements it might carry would cause even one stu dent to start drinking. But it does seem that the time has | come for a clear position on the subject of advertising.
