RATBS-Swbj»rtplkm Elititr !■«) "W« P* MILTON LAWRENCE EDITORIALS Rehabilitation of Jews Aid to Humanitarianism THE FRESNO STATE COLLEGE COLLEGIAN To the Youth: To the Ignorance-b-BIUM Youth: "One in seven persons among the 35 million youtTg men and women of the United States are suffering from either syphilis or gonorrhea." To the Holier-Tnan-Thou Youth: Syphilis is contractable from many sources other than sex To the Progressive Youth: Wassermann Testa are being conducted at the Medical Center to determine positive and negative reaction. Inaugurated in 1937, a Social Hygiene Day brought citizens together to face social hygiene problems, especially that of syphilis prevention, and then were planned the first steps. Last February the second Social Hygiene Day opened a campaign which brought the Federal Congress to arms in the campaign against syphilis. Fifteen million dollars was expended in a long- range program by the United States Public Health Service with the state and local health departments. Approaching is the Third Social Hygiene Day which will undertake to sec that youth knows that benefits to' health and happiness are only possible through a long-range program of control. The emphasis is necessary to urge the state to introduce bills to secure prenatal and premarital examination laws. To ALL the Youth: America Says Syphilis Must Go! The Collegian again suggests that each member of the student body plan to take the Wassermann test conducted at the Medical Center. e European arena - Recent developments i appear to have brought out one ol tne most satisfactory and sane answers to a problem created by the German novernment's "anti- Semitic" pogrom and the renewed activity on that path during the last few weeks. l Should England with the aid and backing of the United States establish Jewish colonies in South America or in other of the British' possessions in Africa a chance will be offered for the rehabilitation of the Jewish people in a country, though not exactly a separate Jewish nation, which is controlled politically by a non- persecuting government. The Jewish people have always been on the short end of the deal throughout history—be it either in China. Palestine, or in modem-day Germany and Italy. The history of the people has been nothing more than torment, anxiety, and death. Little today can be said of a people or nation which with official government sanction can follow and appear eager to follow such a plan as put forth ' in recent government statements to the German populace and press. Whether such a plan as proposed by the British cabinet will succeed or not depends upon the support given the plan by the American governments. Latin America, ever awake to new ideas and with their authoritarian type of government may and may not protest the introduction of so large a portion of foreign peoples. Should they cooperate and the United States . back their recent protests to the German government by action in the way of cooperation, then the project will undoubtedly reveal to a small degree that a humanitarian instinct still, reposes within the businesslike and body of the presen-day world.
