One can't say too many things that are good about television, but — *~I to admit that certain On television c mentaries that deal with civilizations that have long gone and passed away. The program the documentary with a sigh, a feeling of longing, *a feeling of sorrow,* a -feeling of adroira- tlon.* Obviously the latter attitudes attempt to come up with a framework of looking at things I would like to submit the following: When one watches a documentary dealing with, say, ancient civilizations, one should realize that that particular documentary In essence Is taking the individual back to eras that are long gone. One of the shorts includes an ad for a multi-flavored line of vaginal deodorants. .Among the featured flavors is one of new mechanical, scientific and educational approach to human sexual relations. Two male and female dolls drop by the office of a sex counselor only to find out that the reason for their dissatisfaction In Intercourse Is their lack of sexual organs. Lelssl expresses his feelings towards politics with replacing the dollar bill photo of George with footage from ■ raids and ground The Independent film-maker offers a polished level of craftsmanship In animation as well as ceneral film making mechanics. The disturbing element In his works is a certain poster-like quality. This points to the filmmaker having been greatly influenced by the pop art movement in plastic and graphic arts. Lelssl had had a long day and waa not about to carry on the dreary discussion. However, his works suffer from this very lack of virtue. We all know that things are wrong with politics, sexual relations and advertisements. Lelssl merely intensified such feelings with Ihe aid of moving graphics. He does not offer any greater insight. Due to this quality, the works turn Into cliche expressions as soon as they reach the audience. This is regardless of how 'original* the Ideas are. I also have my reservations as far as the length of the films, especially because the ten-minute shorts are even segmented within themselves. It Is very hard to create the quality of organic cinema In such a short time span.
