Out of 2,735 votes counted Sherwood puUed 1,410 while Vartabedlan received 1,241. Riding Into offlce with Sherwood as first vice president was Dave Collins who totaled 1,489 to Vlnvent Lavery's 1,126. Collins and Sherwood's victory made lt a clean sweep for tbe Sher- wood-Colllns-Deveau team. Chuck Deveau was officially declared winner In the race for Monday's primary elecUon. Deveau, who is currently a senator for tbe School of Soctal Work, plied up 1,303 votes to the S77 votes of bis nea Bob Fletcher. "I'm overjoyed,* Sherwood said. "It's been a hard campaign. Now it's time to get to work and begin fulfilling the student body's mandate." Sherwood, as weU as Collins and Deveau, win officially assume office on July 1. "I want to congratulate Phll," Vartabedlan said. "I only nope more studenU would have gotten out and voted. We fought hard and I don't regret any of our campaign moves."" Student Body President BIU Jones, who had vigorously supported the Vartabedian-Lavery- Fletcher ticket also Indicated his disappointment last night as fewer student voted in this year's general election - 3,000 ballots were counted In last spring's contest- said. "We (the executive officers) wlU do an we can to get the new people ready for office. I nope aU elections go as smoothly as this one." "It took me a year," CoUlns said shortly after the official tallies were announced, "but I made It. I'm very happy. My thanks to those who had faith In me and cast their votes for me and the slate. Special thanks to thoee who worked hard and long hours for the Sherwood-CoUlns- Deveau team." Deveau bad praise for minority students running candidates and voting In the ASB elecUons. ■I'm Just overwhelmed and pleased to see the organization of the minority students on this campus utilizing the system to exercise their rights as students," Deveau said. De La Cruz detested David Fox In the race for senator of pubUcaUons and Miss Barry defeated Richard Sukup for senator of performing arts. Both De LaCruzandMlssBar ry led from the beginning of the race as the returns came in.The final vote totals were De La Cruz 1,271, Fox 1,209 and Miss Barry 1,546, Sukup 707. Miss Barry said after learning of her,victory that It represents •student dissatisfaction with the present Jones' administration*.
