Counselors help students

However, after a brief visit to tha
CSUF Counseling Cantor, located
in the Health Center building, thi*
image will quickly be dispelled.
The counselor* at tht canter look
like any Tom, Dick, Harry or Jan*
you might meet on tht street. There
are no couches in their offices and,
according to Dr. Dtrytt Allen,* past
director of the Student Hearth and
Counseling Services and * current
counselor, the counselor* are there to
deal with the 'normal' problems of
students.
-Students come to us with all kinds
of problems is to why they're In college, how they can get information
for i*letting (career) goals or their
relationship with their parent*,'
he said.
•We try to see maybe 25 or so per
week plus the'drop-in'kind of thing.
We we every itudent who withdraws
from the university."
One student, who wished to remain
anonymous, talked of her experiences
with the Counseling Center.
*l was having emotional problems
that I could not handle,' she said.
They got so bad that they began
worrying my friends that I might
commit suicide.
Tht counselor just let me spill
all my problems. She worked on helping me to see myself in a more
positive light.*
After three on* hour sessions, .this
student felt (he no longer needed
anymorecoun**ling.
I would nighty recommend it to
anyone because it'* to private and
the people are so helptuC' th* 'said.

service of the Counseling  Center

gay men's support group.
'In the future, we're probably going to have a schedule,' Allen said.
'Like a diss schedule, which will announce certain group* at - certain
time*.*
