game. Chura suffered the brunt of the
attack, giving up 10 hits and eight'runs
in four innings of work.
Ken Baker (4 1), earned the victory in
relief of starter Ranbir Grewal who
pitched the first 4 1/3 innings. Baker
pitched out of a jam in the fifth and Jason
Brosnan and Robbie Saitz finished up for
Fresno State.
Bennett pulled the plug on Grewal in
the fifth, after the Mustangs pushed two
runs across the plate with a single by
Matt Drake and a triple by lead-off hitter
Robert Hale. Hale scored on an error by
shortstop Eddie Zosky when his relay to
third went into the Bulldog dugout.
Grewal walked the next batter, Sean
Harper, after first baseman Vondran
dropped an easy blooper by Harper in
foul territory. Baker was then summoned,
and retired the next two batters on
groundouts.
It was the second time this season that
Grewal had been pulled in the fourth
inning of a game after Lire Bulldog baiters
had staked him to a, big lead. Grewal said
he was disappointed thai he could not
stick around to pick up the win, but was
not remorseful.
"I was little shaky with my control,"
said Grewal. "But, with an eight-run lead
I need to throw strikes. Maybe next time
111 pull it out"
The 'Dogs upped the lead to 8-0 in the
fourth by scoring three runs, on a
Goodwin triple, a wild pilch by Omnia,
singles by Noel and Vondran and a double
by Zosky.
Goodwin, who was a home run short
of hitting for the cycle and finished the
game with four hits in five trip, said he
has been more relaxed at the plate since
the pressure was lifted after his school-
record 29 game hitting streak was snapped
on April 15.
"I've been getting my pilch to hit, not
the pitcher's. The pitch [on which he hit a
triple] was up and I got on top of it," said
Goodwin.
Fresno State added four more runs in
the seventh against reliever Jim" Sloan
wiih consecutive doubles by pinch-hitter
Tim Lockhart and Goodwin. The 'Dogs
scored solo runs in the second and sixth
innings.
The Bulldogs are ranked 13ih in the
nation by Collegiate Baseball/ESPN.
