I've been here 30 years and still can't figure out why all these malcontents flood into town, dump their big-city attitudes into our massive Inferiority GoraDlex. then turn their collective tails and split. Oh. sure, there's the usual suspects. The cost of living is too high in that cultural oasis they call home. They'll suffer nobly through four or five years of Irving hell to get their degree, then brag to their friends when they return about how awful it was. like this was the Peace Corps, for God's sake. Not only do they not want to be here, they have to tell everyone elsea-hy they don't want to be here, how horrible a place Fresno really is, and why everyone should be as miserable as they are. This bothers me.Alot. Ivebeen listening to this crap for a long time and it's getting old. almost as old as I am. Not wanting to dwell on the negative, however. I'm tired of getting those blank looks when I try to explain the virtues of Uving in Fresno. Life in Fresno is. well. life. That's all. Period. Life, and all that it means and doesnt mean. Food, sex, convenience stores, more sex, fields'of brown and green that stretch to the harvest moon, cows (lots of them), babies, winos dying in the streets, sex, heat. smog, water (butnot afternoon!], trees, asphalt, blood flowing from a stab wound from a knife fight down In Calwa. AIDS, drugs, sex, cheap condoms in the vending machines, fog, churches and rock 'n' roll. And sex. These and a thousand things more make life, not the squiggly, lines on a road map fromTriple- A. Life in the fast lane in Los Angeles or San Francisco may be more appealing to some, but the destination at the end of the road is the same no matter where you're headed.
