8 Hye Sharzhoom March 2000 US Premiere Tour of the Italian Documentary Destination Nowhere: The Witness by Carlo Massa and a public lecture by Dr. Martin Rooney (Bremen, Germany) Tuesday, April 25, 2000 7:30 PM Alice Peters Auditorium • University Business Center Admission is Free co-sponsored by the Armenian Studies Program Armenian Students Organization California State University, Fresno Destination Nowhere: the Witness is documentary on the Armenian Genocide. It depicts Armin Wegner's personal testimony to the Armenian Genocide in the Syrian deserts where he served as an Austrian officer in 1915-16. Wegner photographed the destruction of Armenians in the deserts of Der Zor, and his photographs provide some of the most powerful images we have of the Armenian Genocide. The documentary was shot in Italy, Armenia, and Syria. Armin Wegner was recently honored at the Armenian Genocide museum for championing the plight of Armenians till the end of his life. "Destination Nowhere: the Witness," which is dubbed into English, was shown in London last year to great acclaim. Dr. Martin Rooney is a specialist on Armin Wegner and the Armenian Genocide. He is the founding member ofthe Armin Wegner Society in Germany. His published works include several articles and translations on the Armenian Genocide. His talk will engage Armin Wegner and the role of Germany in the documentation, as well as denial, ofthe Armenian Genocide. This is the first US tour of the film "Destination Nowhere: the Witness." It is organized through the Gomidas Institute Outreach Program.
