Tashjian Scholarship Established Staff Report The Armenian Studies Program announces the establishment ofthe Haig Tashjian Memorial Scholarship at Fresno State. Haig Tashjian was a graduate of Fresno State. He earned a B.A. in Math, was a member of the Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society, and graduated in the top 7% of his class. In school, Haig was an exceptionally bright student who had a special gift for music. He loved jazz, blues, rock-n-roll, and his passion in life was the guitar. He taught himself to play and could learn a song by just listening to the melody. Haig was a passionate, deep and honest person. He always spoke his mind. He was very meticulous, taking time to do everything right until it was perfect. This was the analytical mind of the mathematician. He analyzed everything in life over and over trying to find a solution. Haig passed away this last spring at the age of 34. In remembrance of his desire to encourage other young people, his immediate family and the cousins he grew up with have established a memorial scholarship fund in Haig's name to recognize one Armenian Studies student with a scholarship each year. The Tashjian Memorial Scholarship will provide for scholarships for the benefit of students who enroll in Armenian Studies courses or for research grants to be awarded students in the field of Armenian Studies.
