52 FRESNO STATE COLLEGE program requirements shall be evaluated. Students planning to prepare for school service credentials, see School of Eductrtion. The revised credential structure under the Licensing of Certificated Person11el Law of 1961, effective January 1, 1964, reduces the number of public school credentials to five basic types (California Education Code, Section 13187). Candidates for n standard teaching credential must complete major and minor requirements in accordance wirh one of the options described under School of Educ111i011. For a detailed outline of major-minor options, see School of Edr1cation- Major mtd Minor Rcquiremems for Sttmdnrd Teachi11g Credentials. The Ca/ifomia Edrtcati07J Code, Section 13188, presently defines academic subject matter areas as d1e natural sciences, the social sciences, the humanities, mathematics, and the fine arts. To detennine whether a proposed major or minor field is included within the requirement that it be commonly taught in the public schools, consult the school or dcpa.rtment in which the subject is offered. For requirements for the following credentials see the School of Education: The Standard Teaching Credential With a Specialization in Elementary Teach-ing, Secondary Teaching, or Junior College Teaching.
