The weary Bulldogs appear to be ready to topple from the dressing room benches. Head manager Ralph Mann Coach Pierson talks to his boys who seem tired enough already to forego the pleasure of slugging it out in the second half. SEASON'S Three victories and eight defeats went into the record books as Alvin "Pix" Pierson's Battling Bulldogs were ground down under a terrific schedule. The season opened with Bulldog of the Week John Morse scoring two touchdowns as Cal Poly was thrashed, 20-7. Dick Biama scored the third touchdown on a pass from Tom Aney. Santa Clara's Broncos rode into town and handed the Bullodgs a 53-0 pasting. The Orange Bowl champs scored at will as the Bulldogs gave ground but refused to quit. Kenny Wagner was Bulldog of the Week for a hard fought game. The Bulldogs traveled to Los Angeles and received a 52 to 13 licking from Loyola. The game was bad enough but Coach Jordan Olivar's statement to the L. A. Times, "My only regret is that we don't have Fresno State on the schedule more times this season," was worse. We sincerely hope Jordie will last long enough for the future Bulldogs to cram the words down his throat. Vince Palmo, who scored in the last seconds on a long pass from Bill Montgomery, was named Bulldog of the Week. After outplaying but losing to Santa Barbara's Gauchos 14 to 7, the Bulldogs traveled to Reno and held the Nevadans down for three quarters before succumbing to the superior Wolf pack, 34 to 13. Chuck Toy won the Bulldog trophy for his play in the Gaucho game while Carl Faller won the same honor for the Nevada game. With four straight losses under their belts the victory-hungry Bulldogs, led by Quarterback Aney, Bulldog of the Week, smeared the favored Hellcats from Alameda, 55 to 30. Duke Dozoozlian had a perfect night with seven conversions. Biama is carried from the field with a broken leg as his father, left, watches.
