C I ass FALL Herbert Futrell . Alan Dale^^. Marjorie Bartram Earl Smittcamp Fred Phillips Kenneth Frost After having achieved the bliss and superior attitude traditional to all sophomores, the class of '39 plunged into college activities with the primary objective of taming the rather unruly freshman class. When they found that the frosh failed to wear the traditional green dink, the sophs not only availed themselves the use of the fish pond for ducking purposes but also did something unprecedented when they uncoiled hundreds of feet of fire hose to use on the first year students. The culmination of the conflict was the victory of the supposedly intellectually inferior, though numerically superior, frosh forces at the annual freshman-sophomore brawl. Members of the class of '39 were outstanding in many college activities, among the most prominent of them being Walt Staley, student body yell leader, and Jim and Alan Dale, who were chosen the winning college team to appear over the California Hour radio program. Their first class social affair of the year was a dance held at the Rainbow Ballroom, October 23. Staley, Earl Smittcamp, Marjorie Bartram, John Ruby, and Alan Dale were in charge of all arrangements at the dance. As their social function of the second semester, the second year students held a May Day party dance, with Staley again in charge of the affair. / 7 9 3 OFFICERS President Vice-President Secretary Comm of Social Affairs .
