And Fresno State gave young men, tutored to protect individual rights. It is to these men, over 100 who
lost their lives in World War II and the Korean conflict, that the Memorial Court was dedicated in 1955,
and the fountain in 1963. This fountain, a gift of the
classes of 1957, 1959, 1961, 1962 and 1963, was presented by A.S.B. President Jerry Tahajian to the College President, Dr. Joyal.
MEMORIAL COURT FOUNTAIN
Designed by Darwin Musselman, associate professor of art, the
fountain is 26 feet in diameter, and has 19 lights reflecting the
colors red, blue, green, and gold. Stereo music was installed a
few weeks later, and now students can be found relaxing, and
contemplating the tomorrow.
Dr. Joyal in accepting the fountain on behalf of the FSC student body said
that the court honors the courage and the patriotism of the students and
he hopes the future students will recognize these traits and remember the
sacrifices of these honored men.
Mr. and Mrs. John Masten were among the special guests. Masten,
a former professor of agriculture at FSC, donated most of the
trees that line the Memorial Court. He and his wife also contributed to the fountain fund in memory of their daughter Louise
Masten Jensen.
