3 oxing Bulldog mittmen (I to r)—Larry Forsyth, Jose Paulino, Hal Williams, Dick Cain, Roland Ewert, Gene Griffith, Bob Casperian, Gary Harris, Bob Adams, Dan Earle, Manager Roger Saville. Roland Ewert, 147, and Dick Cain, 156, paced the ring squad with 5-2 won, lost records this year. Coach Joe Juliana For the first year of competition in the California Collegiate Boxing Conference, the inexperienced Bulldogs compiled a 1 win, 2 tie, 3 loss record. The highlight of the season for Coach Juliana's ringmen was a 7Vz - 1 Vi drubbing of San Francisco State. The FSC mittmen lost only one bout, that by a forfeit, in gaining their lone triumph of the year. A lack of glovers hampered the ring squad as many contests and matches were lost via the forfeit route. T. J. Owens finished the collegiate campaign undefeated while Roland Ewert and Dick Cain each pounded out five wins for Juliana's pugilists. In this, the first year of official recognition as an FSC sport, the boxers drew many fans to the fast, hardhitting contests and promises to become a favorite spectator attraction. Fistic battlers Gary Harris, 165, Bob Adams, 178, and Dan Earle, 156, won a total of eight bouts in ring competition.
